First Friday: Inside For Details

The Vintage Theater and the Independent Artists Collective (IAC) are proud present Inside For Details, a visual and performing arts exhibit dedicated to the process and presentation of various mediums. Over a dozen individual artists will create new works as well as showcase their completed pieces in their respective fields of choice. The opening exhibit will occur in conjunction with Scranton’s First Friday on February 3rd 2012.
The Vintage Theater intends for this exhibit to demonstrate its goal of furthering patron participation in its First Friday events. The theater is striving to develop better relationships between artists and the public. Helping art appreciators grow into active members of the artistic community will further their own understanding and reinforce their vital role in the success of the artists career.
The reception and live work creations will be on Feb. 3rd from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Live performance art pieces will begin 9:00 pm

The exhibit will remain on display throughout the month of February and can be seen during the theaters normal gallery hours (Wednesday, 6:00 pm to midnight & Thursday – Saturday, noon to 6:00 pm)

First Friday: East Meets West II

The Vintage Theater is proud to present in association with The United Cultures Leadership Institution East Meets West: Part Two.

This second installment continues last years exhibit of eastern influenced art and its place in our culture. This year a focus on the Nepali/Bhutanese culture and its regional community has been placed. A celebration of this fantastic cultures music, fashion and art will take place!

We here at The Vintage Theater believe strongly in the power of locally created art and music and what it can do for the community. Far to often the joys and inspiration high quality original music brings can not be enjoyed by certain people due to limited funds/awareness of the performances and opportunities we offer. THE MUSIC FOR ALL concert will serve as a way to help fix this problem!

This is a two day festival of original and regionally created music featuring over a dozen fantastic acts! It will be presented FREE and will be heavily promoted throughout the region. In addition to a big party (filled with fun, music, refreshments, prizes and more) it will serve as a networking/learning opportunity for those interested in the area “scene”. The many excellent and rewarding opportunities for musicians and others involved in the music industry of this area will be highlighted and presented.

First Friday: Pro Peace

The Vintage Theater is proud to present its April art exhibition entitled “Pro Peace”. This collection from various local artists was made possible by a partnership between The Jane Kopas Center of The University of Scranton. Several workshops were conducted by the center that helped created many of the pieces that will be showcased.

Marley’s Mission Concert

On Saturday November 27th The Vintage Theater will play host to a benefit concert for Marley’s Mission, a non-profit organization that provides equine (horse-assisted) therapy for children who have gone through trauma.

The goal is to raise funds that will go towards furnishing a waiting room for Marley’s Mission clients. The room will need many toys (and some books) for children ages 4-18. During this time we will also be accepting donations of new and gently used children’s toys, so even if you can’t attend the show feel free to stop by and drop off a toy! We want to make the room as fun for the kids as it can be!
Doors at 6:00 pm / Show at 7:00 pm
Tickets are $6.00 / With performances by..

GLADfresh Workshops

In March The Vintage Theater (thanks to local rostered artist and Third Director Constance Denchy) introduced the GLADfresh technique – which is the use of “cling wrap” to seal the metaphoric “historic” leftovers that the individual artists sees fit to do so.

GLADfresh will return again for August 2010 – and as we enter the final weeks before its unwrapped on August 6th (First Friday) we want YOU to become a part of it!

Come, learn and create part of the installation piece that will be unveiled at August 2010 First Friday!

Workshops to be held from 6pm to 10pm the last three Mondays of July (July 12th / July 19th / July 26th).

Open Microphone Night

Calling all musicians, poets, actors, stand up comics, etc. – this is your night to show us what you got!

The last Thursday of every month is our open microphone night. Starting at 7:00 pm we invite all performers/artists of any medium to come and do a sampling of their work. All ages and experience levels are welcome!

Remember – open mics are on the last Thursday of every month and are 100% free to attend or participate in!

August 2010 First Friday will “unwrap” its latest and without a doubt most intense art project ever – a large scale installation with pieces and concepts from various local artists – it is….

It’s about taking down the “metaphoric walls” which hold up the glass ceiling that have prevented so many from reaching the top. Throughout a male dominated Euro-Centric Art History, many marginalized artists who were/are prevented the right to be included…in fact, many have been left out of history & it’s text books. THE GLADfresh MANTRA is one that is “clear” on this “leftover history”; it accepts and acknowledges the walls are a reality for many: 1. Racism 2. Classism 3. Sexism & the last but not the least( because it allows the other three to form the box to contain “other” in)…THAT 4th WALL IS: FEAR!

In the 21st Century we are “CLEAR” as to who, what, why, when, and where people were left out…it doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy LEFTOVERS!!! Beneath all the wrap there really is something worth savoring!!!So KEEP WRAPPING -word

Lesser Animals E.P Release

Lesser Animals will release their new E.P alongside several other great local acts such as The Skeleton Equation, Kite Party and These Elk Forever (with acoustic an acoustic performance by Dan Rossler of A Fire With Friends).

This superb evening will be complimented by a partnering art show to be held before the performances begin! More details on the art show to be announced shortly!
