The Vintage Theater Seeks Steam-Punk Submissions For July Exhibit

The Vintage Theater constantly strives to work with new and engaging artists of all mediums and genres. For that reason, The Vintage Theater will present an entire exhibit inspired by the style of Steam-punk (a term coined by author K.W Jeter). The theater will be reinventing their annual “Masquerade” with the use of this unique and fascinating artistic style. Artists are encouraged to submit work for consideration in this show.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION: All artists who have works of any medium that fit under the umbrella of steampunk are encouraged to submit. Please e-mail photos of the works, a brief artist bio. and contact information to info@scrantonsvintagetheater.com or mail images/information to 119 Penn Ave, Scranton PA, 18503 (please note digital submissions are preferred). The early deadline for submissions is May 15th 2012. Submissions will be considered beyond that point on a as-needed basis.

EXHIBIT INFORMATION: The exhibit will open July 6th 2012 as part of downtown Scranton’s First Friday art-walk. It will close on July 28th 2012. The theaters gallery hours are Wednesday (6:00 pm to midnight) and Thursdays thru Saturdays (noon to 6:00 pm)

The Vintage Theater Seeks Work based on local music scene For May Exhibit

The Vintage Theater has served as a haven for new, up and coming and original artists of all mediums and genres for over three years. Returning for its second annual installment Rhythm of The Region II will serve as the theaters gallery exhibit for the month of May 2012. This exhibit is dedicated to the history and passion of the local music scene. Original art pieces, photographs, promotional materials and even memorabilia are welcome for submission.

A heavy emphasis this year will be placed on new works created for premier use in this show and venue specific memorabilia.

There is plenty of exciting projects in the works and we are thrilled to begin our 2012 visual exhibit/programming season with an incredible show brought about by an exciting partnership with the IAC (Independent Artists Collective)!

The exhibit is entitled Inside For Details, and it focuses on not only the presentation but the process of various art mediums/styles. During the opening reception (February 3rd 2012, starting at 6:00 pm) the artists established pieces will not only be on display, but they will be creating new pieces live in full view and inspection of the public. We hope to engage our patrons and spark discussion and even perhaps inspiration!

Hello friends and patrons!

We want to thank you all for your continued support of The Vintage Theater and all of the excellent programming we are able to provide. As part of a new campaign (Warm Up the Winter to be exact) we will now be accepting donations year round to assist with the theaters high operational heating/electric expenses. With your assistance in alleviating the fiscal burden that we face each year we will be able to place more focus on what we do best – cultivating and showcasing incredibly talented musicians, artists, film makers, actors, etc.

Your generous contributions will be used specifically for our yearly heating costs (and the electrical usage that accompanies it). It is estimated (based on previous years expenses and rising costs) that the theater will spend about $2500.00 this winter on heating oil alone! You can help us cover this and then some with your generous donations!

This will also allow us to offer set and consistent gallery/cafe hours in which the theater would be more readily available to the general public for information, art viewing and purchases. Through your support we can take the theater and its wonderful work to the next level! While all donations of any amount are greatly appreciated we have some excellent thank you gifts to offer for those who can afford certain amounts -

$25.00 – For any donation of twenty five dollars or more you can receive two tickets to nearly any Vintage Theater program/public event!

$50.00 – For any donation of fifty dollars or more you can receive two Vintage Theater tickets AND two all day passes to the Pages & Places Festival 2012 (which will take place on October 6th 2012)

$100.00 – For any donation of one hundred dollars ore more you can recieve two Vintage Theater tickets, two Pages & Places passes AND a lovely original music bundle featuring various CD’s, merchandise and more from incredible musical artists that have performed at/support The Vintage Theater!

The campaigns official kick off will occur on January 6th 2011 in conjunction with the Warm Up the Winter Show where we shall announce our major yearly sponsors and other exciting news! We here at The Vintage Theater have done quite a bit in the cultivation, exhibition and overall support for regional musicians/bands. Be it our intimate musical gatherings or sold out concerts The Vintage Theater hosts 3 – 5 musical events a week (on average). We now are coming to those who are members of the local musical community for assistance in a very important matter. The Vintage Theater will soon be undergoing a very exciting donation campaign to assist with the rising cost of heating, which always presents itself as one of the theaters most expensive operational costs.

Any local musician, band, etc. that is interested in helping with this matter and promoting their work to a wider range of audience is asked to contact the theater as soon as possible. We are seeking the donation of local (and original) CD’s, t-shirts and other merchandise wares to be offered as thank you gifts for our donation campaign.

This is a very important matter and we are confident that the members of this dynamic and dedicated music community will rise to the occasion!

Hello everyone (Conor here)

I apologize for not posting more blog updates regularly but things have gotten so incredibly busy and our workload (thankfully) continues to grow!

I wanted to take the time to comment on something I witnessed tonight that I truly felt was such an excellent reflection on the direction this region is going in.

Now keep in mind – this is a chilly Friday evening in downtown Scranton. As always we had a great event here ( a rap show featuring DEEP squad as a matter of fact) while some good friends of the theater (A Social State) were the main act just a few blocks away at another downtown venue, New Visions Art Studio.

If you have not yet been to New Visions please visit and support them, they have MANY fantastic things to offer and are run by some of the coolest people you will ever meet.

Theresa and I were able to make the show at New Visions just in time for A Social States set (which while awesome was disappointing as several great acts played earlier). While Theresa and I joked that it was nice to be at a show and NOT running it – it hit me. There were two all ages shows in downtown Scranton on the same night and both went over splendidly.

Too often, people can become wrapped up in themselves and their own projects they never take time to enjoy the work of others who are also offering it to the public. On the way back to the theater I passed several bars which each had their own crowds, all seeming to be enjoying themselves. Truly the city was alive and well. You could feel the energy downtown. Please forgiven me for what I am about to do but there are no other words to describe this vibrarant energy other than to say it was -

electric – we live in a truly electric city!

Due to forces far beyond our control we regret to announce the cancellation / indefinite postponement of Karl William’s Lost In A Desert World, which was set to run this upcoming weekend. We are very grateful to Mr. Williams and the hard work of the cast. We are also very thankful for your support of this and we hope you extend your understanding and patience as we make this disappointing but necessary decision. Two all ages music concerts will be presented on Friday and Saturday in lieu of the production. Our deepest thanks to the musicians filling this programming block at such short notice.

The Vintage Theater (located in the heart of downtown Scranton) seeks regional/original playwrights for its 2011/2012 theatrical season (with the first production slated for October 2011).
For nearly three years The Vintage Theater has been a center for the visual and performing arts and helped thousands of artists/performers cultivate, showcase and benefit from their works. Continuing its mission of focusing on local and original works the theater is also proud to state that the plays (while still being produced by the theater) will be performed at a larger more “theatrical” downtown venue, allowing very little limitations to the scope of the script or its technical demands. All genres, styles and types of scripts are welcome!
